Non-compliance could result in penalties up to €35 million or 7% of global turnover. Obligations include documenting data provenance, logging all model inputs and outputs, versioning models, and performing regular risk assessments. Recent standards require enterprises to maintain structured oversight of AI-driven actions and ensure constant auditability of automated decision-making.

The EU AI Act is entering a key enforcement phase in 2026. It designates as high-risk AI systems those embedded in ITSM platforms, particularly tools that automate incident triage or support autonomous workflows; these are subject to Article 10, which mandates data governance and transparency. Organizations must ensure training data is representative, traceable, and logged with complete lineage and version histories. Harmonized standards such as prEN 18286, developed to implement Article 17's lifecycle governance requirements, entered public inquiry on October 30, 2025. Full adoption depends on the final publication and endorsement of these standards. IT service organizations are now required to maintain detailed AI model inventories, recording each model's purpose, data sources, owners, retraining intervals, and decision logs. Explainability and human-in-the-loop monitoring are mandatory; audit authorities require firms to demonstrate why AI classified incidents in specific categories, identify who approved actions, and specify fallback procedures for incorrect AI decisions.
